Inspiration: Headboards

Headboards serve a function, but they are a perfect opportunity to interject personality and serve as a piece of art in the bedroom. Take look at a few I have had my eye on lately...

Have you been by JHAI lately? Take a look at our headboard window display the next time you are in Duling School!

Product Spotlight: Molly M Designs

If you have been in the shop lately or follow us on Facebook or Instagram, you've probably seen the work of Molly M Designs

Molly McGrath is a designer based in the Mission district of San Francisco. She is professionally trained as an architect, and after using a laser cutter to make architectural models, she recognized the machine’s unique potential to make jewelry and other designed objects.

In the shop we offer several of her items, including the Bulcao print (above). Made with cream and copper paper interlaid with dutch voile fabric, her print has a whimsical quality between color and shine.

We carry others from this line, including the Copacabana print.

We also offer Molly M's intricate felt coasters. These coasters are made with 100% merino wool felt and leather. The coasters are decorative tabletop objects - they will protect your table from the scratch of a wine glass or coffee mug, but not from a sweaty glass.

We have plenty of her items in stock! Come take a look at her work up close in the shop or visit her site and let us know if there is anything you would like us to special order for you.

Summer is upon us! As the temperature begins to rise, outdoor spaces are an important part of life in the South. There is nothing like sitting on the back patio (especially on these mild night we have been having in Mississippi) with family and friends.

Are you feeling like your patio could use an update? Take a look at a few of my favorites for the season.

Music Monday: Houndmouth

How has it rolled back to Monday again? Starting it off with Houndmouth to get on a good foot for the week ahead.

One great perk of JHAI being in the historic Duling School building is it's just steps away from one of Jackson's most active small concert venues - Duling Hall (the original school auditorium).  I have seen Houndmouth perform live three times now, two of which were right here at Duling Hall.  Love them! Sadly, it was announced last week that Katie Toupin is leaving the band. Hoping for new great things from Katie and Houndmouth, as they continue to evolve their talents separately.

In their short tenure, they have created more than a few good tunes... Have a listen to this one!

Project Favorites: Point Clear

The first signs of warmer weather are here! Early spring flowering trees have already leafed out, daylight savings time is in play, spring break is this week! How many of you were lucky enough to head south to warmer waters for Spring Break?

I'm having thoughts of the bay breeze and how nice it is this time of year in Fairhope. On the southernmost 'point' of the east side of Mobile Bay, still officially within the city of Fairhope, there is a short stretch of bay shore, known as Point Clear. This is a special place steeped in history and continues to enchant those who have spent time at The Grand Hotel, walked the scenic boardwalk (part boardwalk/part sidewalk/part beaten path), taken in the sights and sounds of the native flora and fauna while waiting for an epic sunset.  I can go on, but... suffice it to say, being in the warm Alabama gulf coast air of Point Clear takes you to another place.

When I was approached to assist with the interior finishes and design of a property being built in Point Clear, I was thrilled. My client is an artist.  She has a wonderfully unique way of seeing color and texture.  While the goal was to stay true to the 'Old Bay' architecture, the interiors imbue simple elegance while embracing the juxtaposition of muted pastels and bright saturated colors seen together in the bright light of the bay.

This house was recently featured in Alabama Magazine - read the article and take a closer look around the home!

I am fortunate to have helped articulate and implement what defines this house as my client's home away from home.  Happy Spring Break, Y'all!
